Location of work: Mae Sot, Tak

Contract Type: Fixed Term with posibility of extension depending on funding and program needs

Application deadline: 8 October 2017

Background/IRC Summary: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provides assistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.

Job Overview/Summary:

The IRC’s Protection program in Thailand works to integrate international humanitarian protection principles and gender equality into all facets of program implementation, while promoting increased access to justice and legal services for conflict-affected individuals and communities. The program seeks to protect and promote the rights of displaced persons in refugee camps, migrant communities and urban areas in Thailand, as well as in southeast Myanmar. The program ensures that people are safe in their homes and communities; that they receive appropriate support after experiencing harm, and aims to enable displaced people to exercise free and informed decisions on where to live.

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Programs (DDP), and the overall guidance of the Country Director, the Protection Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating protection programming in IRC field sites in Thailand. This includes providing technical oversight across all field sites of implementation and expansion of the protection program in new project sites. The Protection Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of protection strategy development, program design, implementation, standardization, and evaluation of all protection-related activities within the IRC Thailand country program. In addition, the Protection Coordinator will be primarily responsible for coordinating with other non-governmental organizations (NGO), United Nations (UN) agencies and Community Based Organization (CBO) to strengthen the protection sector border-wide. The primary focus is on program quality, with program progress being monitored and evaluated against quantifiable benchmarks.

At the interim, the Protection Coordinator will also provide supervision and guidance to the IRC Thailand livelihoods team; oversee the implementation of the IRC Thailand livelihoods activities in accordance with donor regulations and the IRC Strategy Action Plan (SAP); and supervise and provide on-going support to the livelihoods team in Thailand.
