For National SHA Coordinator

 

Kindernothilfe e.V. (which means ‘help for children in need’, in short: KNH) is a German non- governmental welfare organisation aiding at present more than 588.000 destitute children in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In Thailand, KNH has established a programme with Thai non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as partners. Three partners have been identified who committed themselves to implement long term projects applying the KNH Self Help Group Approach (SHA). In Myanmar, KNH has started to promote SHA in partnership with one non-profit organization based in Northern Shan State. 

KNH is seeking a motivated new staff to fulfill the position of National Coordinator for SHA. She/he will be responsible for all SHA-related projects or community development programs and will assume the role of a facilitator, trainer and coordinator. She/he will support the partners with implementing the Self Help Approach (SHA) and will report to the Country Coordinator at KNH’s regional office in Thailand. The office based is in Chiang mai, Thailand.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinating and strengthening SHG/Community development work for partners:
  • Contextualize and prepare training materials for SHA Training Modules as needed.
  • Regularly monitor and mentor SHA partners and conduct Trainings of Trainers on specific SHA Training Modules for project coordinators (POs) and community facilitators (CFs).
  • Provide need-based Trainings for project partners (POs) and community facilitators (CFs).
  • Visit partner organizations and some of their Self Help Groups (SHGs) on a regular basis.
  • Visit SHG trainings and meetings and give vital feedback to partner organizations.
  • Organize exposure/Co-learning/Partners’ Meetings for the partner organizations as needed.
  • Gives recommendations in case of difficulties faced by the partner organizations and during termination of partnerships.
  • Support and advice community development programs of partners that do not use KNH Self Help Approach.
  • Analyze and document the insights and lessons from the field relevant to policy changes and reforms regarding children’s and women’s issues at a national level.

 

  1. Promote Self Help Concept within government structures and civil society
  • Organize sensitization programs/meetings.
  • Network with like-minded organizations to promote Women’s and Children’s Rights and sustainable development.
  • Organize national forum for SHA partners and other thematic meetings
  • Organize/ host exposures and meetings for local and international partners.
  • Attend KNH relevant network meetings as deputy of the Country Coordinator.

 

  1. Reporting and other duties:
  • Report to the Country Coordinator in Thailand and coordinate all activities in close consultation.
  • Write a quarterly report and an annual report to the Country Coordinator, to the Asia SHA Coordinator and to KNH’s Office in Germany according to deadline.
  • Collect and consolidate SHA biannual reports and KNH annual narrative report from the Promoting Organizations and forward them to the Country Coordinator, Asia SHA Coordinator, and KNH HQ.
  • Collect quarterly SHG project excel from the Promoting Organizations, upload the data into the web-based database and process reports as needed.
  • Provide financial report to the Country Coordinator, KNH regional office monthly.

Requirements:

The applicant should have a minimum of 3 years experience of working with civil society organizations in Thailand in the areas of women empowerment, poverty reduction, education etc. The applicant should have a thorough understanding of the rights-based approach in developmental work.

A Bachelor-level degree or higher in relevant fields of study such as International Development, Political Science/International Relations, Economics, Sociology, or other related field is preferred.

3-5 years’ experience in development programming with a thorough understanding of community based civil society organizations in Thailand, working with children and women.

Proven experience in providing training to communities and grass-root organizations

Excellent written and oral communication skills in Thai and English. Skill in indigenous dialects e.g. Karen, SHAN, Lahu is an asset.

Willingness to frequent travels to remote and rural areas including overnight stays

Willingness to travel to a KNH partner country to receive training on the Self-Help-Approach for a duration of 2-3 weeks.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access.
